What is Radon?
Radon gas is a naturally occurring carcinogen. It is well known to cause lung cancer in people.
Many houses in the Arnold area have a radon gas saturation higher than the carcinogenic amount.
Radon gas comes from the silt, not the home. No house, new or old, is fully shielded from radon intrusion.
Each and every home meshes with the soil underneath it differently. That is why homes next door to each other may have significantly different radon gas saturation.
Radon accumulation will change on different days and with the seasons inside a normal range. A quick radon gas measurement measures a small time period and is a good metric of whether or not the home has a radon accumulation.
Radon has a half-life of about half of a week. That means that radon saturation won’t be higher if the home is closed for months, days, or years.
No house is absolutely sealed.
Vapors may suffuse through any grounded vent in the property such as sump drains, pipeworks, and minor cracks in the foundation’s concrete.
The way to know with confidence the saturation of radon gas in the structure is to run a radon test.
Probing a house for radon is a special procedure when completed with a real estate purchase.
A radon gas technician will place the radon gas monitors in the property. Radon analyzers will be dropped off on any level that touches the ground. On average up to three analyzers are placed in the property for the radon gas analysis.
Our radon technician will close every window, shut the vent on the chimney, and ensure the air conditioning is functioning in the required manner.
Our radon gas professional will also seal every indicated window with anti-tampering tape to confirm that closed home conditions are met.
The radon probes are left in the home for a few days recording the amount of radon gas in the building. A specialist will come back to the building once the radon test is completed to take the analyzers and generate a report.
