Why Test for Asbestos?

Asbestos can lead to respiratory diseases including lung cancer. Are you concerned that your home may contain asbestos? We can test for that!

Information About Asbestos

Location

Asbestos can be found in many materials such as attic and wall insulation containing vermiculite, vinyl floor tiles, roofing shingles, house siding, and textured paint. Some oil and coal furnaces and door gaskets with insulation can also contain the mineral.

Exposure

There is no amount of exposure time which causes health effects. However, hazards with asbestos only occur when fibers are released into the air. Many homes have materials containing the mineral, but in construction pieces which have not been touched.

Factors

Asbestos is a mineral that occurs naturally from rock and soil. The rock and soil used to collect materials during construction are often never separated from those materials. This mineral was common in construction between 1930 and 1950.

Health Effects

When asbestos fibers are disturbed and released into the air, the small fibers can make their way into a human’s lungs. Once the fibers are in a human’s lungs, the fibers can potentially block blood flow to cells causing issues such as lung cancer and mesothelioma.
